Engagement

I like to do an engagement session with every couple before their wedding. It’s a great opportunity to get some fun photography without the pressures of the wedding day, which can then be used for photo guestbooks and other things. But beyond that, this session lets us get to know each other better so that on your wedding day you are more comfortable and natural with a camera around and I can better recognize and capture your personalities.

That said, I get many questions about how an engagement session works, so hopefully the following will answer your questions and help us figure out how to have an awesome engagement session.

How long will it take?
Shooting time can range anywhere from 40 minutes to 4 hours. I am very flexible on this and the time spent will be primarily affected by the number of locations and clothing changes. Also, if time allows, I would love to start (or end) by meeting at a restaurant, coffee shop, bar, or ice-cream shop so I can treat you to some food or drink.

Where should we do it?
I want your photography to fit your personality, so I want the location to fit as well. We can shoot just about anywhere! It could be a meaningful location like where you first met, where he proposed, or where you went on a particularly memorable date. It could involve a shared hobby like a baseball diamond, a poker room, or a library. Or it could just be a place that fits your personal style like a beach, a farm, or a downtown.

What should we wear? Can we bring a change of clothes?
Like the location, wear something that fits your personality and style. It’s generally best not to wear anything with a strong pattern, large logos, or text. You are more than welcome to bring a change of clothes, so feel free to mix it up between dressy, casual, and even stuff that’s a joke.

Can we bring ___?
Yes! If there are some props that you think go well with your location, like a bat, glove and ball for a baseball diamond, please bring them along! Want to bring your dog? Sure! Keep in mind that any props (or pets) we will want to get some shots without also.
