Recently my friend’s Sara and Ryan got engaged, and I got to capture the proposal. Ryan did a great job of preparing the whole day and recruiting some friends to set the stage. There were flowers with notes and photos placed along the path in a State park next to Lake Michigan, culminating with Ryan singing and playing her a song, the proposal on his knee, and crème brûlée dessert prepared for the celebration.
Usually people try to schedule their engagement session during the Spring or Fall, but Kylee and Adam are different; the first time we met it was decided a snowboarding engagement session would be a lot of fun and really fit their personalities, even though there was plenty of time for a Summer or Fall shoot with great weather. Sure enough, it was fun! They were all about just hanging out and enjoying ourselves, which makes my job easy. I got some fun candids and we only stopped to really shoot for a few minutes all day.
Their wedding is coming up next month and I’m really excited. Seriously, not just saying that, I’m really excited.
In high school I used to snowboard 100 days a year. I feel really old thinking how long ago that was. Now I get in a few days when I go visit my parents, and this was actually my first time snowboarding in Michigan. We went to Nub’s Nob and I was happy to find a nicely cut 20 foot super pipe! It’s been a few years since I’ve rode a half pipe, and clearly I’m no Shaun White, but I let Kylee use my camera and she did get some proof that I can still get at least a few feet above the lip:

Melanie and Matt are getting married this summer but they live in New York City, so scheduling an engagement session was a little tricky. They were visiting Michigan for the holidays so we connected last week, and since it was about 15 degrees we shot mostly inside at The English Inn, which was a perfect fit since that’s where they’re getting married in June (and it’s perhaps my favorite venue around Lansing).
