This was part of my week of Emilys; a wedding and two engagement shoots each with an Emily. Here’s Emily and Adam, we kept it pretty quick since it was a frigid 13 degrees (photo below to prove it), but it was great just having a drink with them and taking a warm-up break for some coffee.

Okay, I’m doing things a little backwards here and posting engagement photos after the wedding. Elida and Brian were married last week, but since they live in Arizona we weren’t able to do engagement photos until just a few days before the wedding.

This is Melanie and Dave. They met in Grand Rapids, they’re getting married there next summer, so that’s where we shot their engagement photos recently. We started at Founder’s Brewing, wandered around the city, and hit MadCap Coffee along the way. That’s a perfect day in my book.

It’s been a busy month, so this engagement session from a few weeks ago almost got lost in the “to-blog” pile. Annie, Brooks and I went out to Lake Michigan on a beautiful day. I remember talking about Maui a fair bit, which is where my wife and I honeymooned and where they will be honeymooning next year. I could talk about that for days, there are so many great things to do, see, and eat. I think I’ll create a little “Honeymooner’s Guide to Maui” for them.

Hey, look what I found! I was checking some backups and realized I never blogged this great engagement session. I had back-to-back weddings the two days before this shoot, and left for California two days after. Sometimes I don’t blog every session when things get that busy, but this one deserves being revisited.
We had fun. Christina has a totally infectious laugh and smile. We stopped by a run-down hotel that has been opened to graffiti artists before it gets torn down (go check it out before it’s gone). We caught a great sunset.

When Keith first called me he said he only had two specific requests for the wedding, an open bar, and that he would pick the photographer. Sounds like a great start. Then yesterday as we sat and had drinks before their engagement shoot, he mentioned that he actually had a third request, that he was allowed to invite “all the jackass friends I want.” Audrey laughed and said all those things were a given. Yeah, I definitely like them. It’s going to be a fun wedding.

Their wedding date, just a month away!
