2010 in Wedding Photojournalism Jan 17

I put up some of my favorite engagement and wedding portraits of 2010 a few days ago. Now it’s time for the candids.

Aside from that hour or so designated for portraits on the wedding day, I spend all my time hunting after natural and candid moments. Some call it photojournalism (and I am a member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association) but to me it’s more than just a style of shooting, it’s the core of photography. I am thrilled to consistently receive feedback surprised by how much was captured without people even realizing. That’s my goal: to discretely capture personality and emotion.

Here are some of my favorite moments captured in 2010, all completely without direction, and in most cases not even aware I was photographing:

Ack! Baby with the hanger is too much! I also really dig grandma with the light sword. Nice.

Holy cow, there are some great shots here Brett.
This is the stuff I love best, for sure. You shoot amazing and soulful candids.
And weddings need more light sabers!

Some great photojournalistic shots! Love them. All of the pictures of kids were great moments. The baby with the hangar? Nice.

I’m so curious to see more of the wedding with the light sabers. Hmmm, was there perhaps a theme to the wedding or were they just accessories=)

  5. Brett Maxwell says:

That was a fun time, the wedding party just used the light sabers for one little thing, but then kids were running around with them for the rest of the night.

You’ve had an amazing year Brett. My favorites are the groom kissing his grandma’s forehead and the little boy blowing bubbles at the ceremony. You’re pretty amazing dude.
